A Summer-Venture

When school got out in the bright month of June
On a wonderfully warm summer's day,
Jessica, Jenny & yes, Mr. James
Set out for the deep ocean blue.

They sailed away in a sleek wooden boat;
Saw wonderful creatures galore;
Dolphins & fishes, a large whale or two
And pelicans up the wazoo.

They sailed right up to a tropical isle
With jungles of palm trees & vines.
They landed their boat & got out & they scampered;
Across the long beaches they flew.

And then they decided, 'twas not time to tarry;
But went to explore in the jungle;
Wherein there were plants, that Jess didn't have
In her home town of Richeylaru .

They trod & they tramped on the warm jungle mosses
Until they were terribly weary.
"It's now time to eat, but 'man' we are beat!
Our young bods we now must renew!"

So James with a wink, said, "Do you not think
That I could not find us some food?"
So out of his pocket, he found some old white string.
"I'll catch us a catfish or two.

You start a fire, but don't let it wander
Into these beautiful bushes.
I'll feed you right soon & way before noon
You'll have what your tummies want, too.

They started their fire, because their desire
Was rumbling & grumbling & growling.
When suddenly near, was a sound that was clear.
And man, what a hulabaloo!

The sound it kept coming and they kept a-wondering
What COULD be making that noise!
They shook in their boots & froze in their tracks.
What was it & what would it do??

When suddenly, out in the open it came,
A brown body & nose that was twitching!
They looked at each other & said "OH, what a bother!"
You see it was old Scooby Doo.

They laughed & they giggled & said, "Dog you scared us!"
And what could a scared person do?
They sang and they danced & Scooby, he pranced.
What a joke on those sweet girls, he knew.

Soon James came back with fish in his pack
And what a surprise he encountered!
Jessica, Jenny & Old Scooby Doo
Were dancing & prancing anew.

He took out his fishes & much to the wishes
Of all of the bodies involved,
He cooked them real good, as really he should.
His fishes were easy to chew.

And now they were tired, real tired from eating.
They laid down to take a long nap.
But while they were sleeping, thru the palm trees came flitting
A tropical fairy named Sue.

She flittered & fluttered & scooted & scampered
Until she came into their camp.
She looked them all over; they were sleeping in clover.
Those 3 kids, they were quite a crew.

Jessica woke with a jerk & a start;
A surprise she happened to see!
For there on her shoe, sat the fairy, named Sue.
She thought she was dreaming, it's true.

The fairy, she looked & she opened her mouth
And said, "I do not know you, my dear.
I've never seen anyone just quite your size.
What kind of a fairy are you?"

"I'm not any fairy", said Jessica frankly.
"I'm human, as fairies should know.
But if you can't tell, you musn't be well.
And please do not sit on my shoe."

The fairy, she wiggled & giggled & squiggled
And said in a voice that did quiver,
"I know that you're human, the roses are bloomin'.
And now I'll say 'How-do-ya-do?'!!"

And all this-awhile, Scoob sat with a smile,
His tongue was a-way hangin' out.
He was jawin' & chawin' and soon they were knowin';
His thoughts caused a bit of snafu.

The fairy looked good, as good as she should,
A very delectable treat!
He was ready to pounce, but soon Jenny cried out,
"Now, Scooby, I don't want you to!"

Scooby & Susie looked over each other;
With drooling and fear, they did sigh.
Sue tried to be cheerful, in truth she was fearful.
And Scooby, his scruples were few.

Then pretty soon was a horrid new sound;
It came from afar, far away.
"It sounds like a moose, it can't be a goose."
A moose with a giant kazoo.

The children they huddled, the others were muddled.
Another thing now they must fear.
So Scooby & Susie, they now formed a 'fear' team;
And some of their plans they now drew.

Now Sue, she decided to fly off; she wanted
To see what the noise was about.
"Scoob, you stay here & do what you can,
To see if you can't find a clue."

Sue flew way up high to a wonderful spot
Where she could see just what was coming.
She looked high & low, her eyes they did glow.
And wider & wider they grew!

A dino, she saw; He had a big jaw!
And he was forever a-roarin'!
His jaw gaped & it gapped & sometimes it flapped.
He was eating some leaves, he'd accrued.

She quickly flew back to the others at camp
And excitedly started in telling,
Of all that she saw & that now they must run
And hide in their trusty canoe.

Then James with a smile said, "Tell me, my friend,
About this great huge giant beast;
About his big head & his jaws & his neck.
Are his legs like a huge kangaroo?"

When fairy Sue told about all that she saw,
James sat down just right where he was.
"We need not fear this huge dino we hear.
He only eats plants & cashews."

The children clasped hands & away they did dance.
And Scooby, he pranced & he capered.
While Sue fluttered by, on wing way up high.
And Jenny sang just like Baloo.

But in their excitement, they just hadn't noticed,
The bushes had started to rustle.
James shook with excitement, Scoob & Sue they were frightened!
The Dino soon came into view.

"I knew all along," said James with a grin,
"It wasn't a dangerous beast.
He growls & he roars, but really my friends,
He's gentle as Winnie the Pooh."

They all got excited & Bronto decided
He liked these new creatures he saw.
He let out a sound, they hadn't yet heard,
A tiny wee sound like a shrew.

They now fixed some lunch & then with a crunch,
Ate cashews & fishes & berries.
The day was now over, new friends they would treasure.
Their adventure was now nearly through.

They doused out their fire, said good-bye to their new friends.
Then jumped in their sleek wooden boat.
The ocean was roarin', the birds were a-soarin'.
The children all said "Va-Va-voom!"

Then back in their cottage, they sat round the table,
And talked of their travels galore.
It was quite a good day, but now all they could say-
Was to bid their adventure adieu!!
